Flashlight

I am hesitant to acknowledge my sins. I am somewhat scared of them. Are you like that? To me, acknowledging my sins is like shining a flashlight into a dark corner of an unfinished basement.

What will the flashlight reveal?

Can we just keep the basement door closed?   I am not comfortable acknowledging my sins.

But the more I think about it, even though I am uncomfortable, I know my sins are real.

I am reading a book that is taking me into that corner.  It explains how God can shine a light into the darkness.

The book highlights how broad and deep our sins can be.  In the Valley of Vision book in chapter The Dark Guest, it is said “Let me not only speak the word sin but see the thing itself.”  And in the chapter Yet I Sin, “Grant that through the tears of repentance I may see more clearly the brightness and glories of the saving cross.”

Yes, there is a friend standing there with me.

God is waiting for us to acknowledge our sins and turn to him. He knows our sins, yet he still loves me. The Bible tells us that he forgives us, and He actually forgets our sins once we acknowledge them. In Psalm 103:12 we read that our sins are removed as far as the east is from the west. We have nothing to hide.

Let God be your flashlight.

Godspeed.
