In Your Seat

Yesterday, 100,000 people were instructed to get to a BIG football game early.   They were specifically instructed to be IN their seats an hour before someone important arrived.  This was a casual, happy diverse crowd.   Normally they set their own schedule.  Sometimes they would be early.  Sometimes they would be late.  It really just depended on what THEY wanted to do.

When I heard the request from the governing body that everyone needed to be in their seats that early I thought “well that will never happen”.  You can’t tell 100,000 people what to do.  Note that the mandate was to honor/assist/allow a person of stature to enter.   Sure, some of the people like him but some don’t or don’t care. But guess what? The crowd complied.  And as promised the event went as planned. Well, mostly.

The Bible tells us that Christ will come again.  We are not told when He will come.  But we are specifically told to be prepared.   We are told, in effect, to be IN our seats.  We are told that Christ will come again as a thief in the night.  I suspect there was a time yesterday when the crowd was not allowed to go inside.  They missed their chance.  Their time ran out.  Their time ran out. They didn’t listen.  They did their own thing.

Don’t wait.  Be prepared.   The instructions are clear.  Get in your seat of redemption and love and grace.  This is not a game.  This is your beautiful life to come.

There was a spectacular sunrise this morning.  As I stared at it I immediately began to think of all the things God has done for me and gave thanks to Him.  An amazing list.  But I was focused on myself and the last year.  I appropriately shifted my focus.  I focused on the most amazing thing He’s done.  Christ died on the cross for me and for you.

I’m in my seat.  Are you?

Godspeed.
