The Warning Within Coronavirus from REM

Are you watching the news? It’s disturbing to me.
I believe God is trying to get our attention. It’s a troubling world right now. Widespread disease, multiple disasters. World wide.
To me, it seems, logically, that God is imploring us to turn away from sin and turn to Him for forgiveness and experience His comfort. We need His comfort now. We need to trust in His plan.
REM has a song named “It’s the End of the World As We Know It”. It sure seems to apply to this season of Covid 19.
But are we listening? The disturbing news is multidimensional and depicts the difficult current state of life.
As if the widely spreading deadly disease wasn’t enough, we are experiencing natural disasters. Multiple massive west coast fires. East coast earthquakes. Plane and train crashes. The economic impact is huge. For a numbers person like me, it keeps me up at night. Large and small businesses are closed. Cruise ships are docked. Airports are quite and sometimes empty. Federal funding is uncertain. The numbers released as to the economic impact are HUGE. Protests are intense. Domestic violence has increased. Rallies, some violent, are common. Explosions too. These type headlines are no longer rare. These troubling incidents are happening here and abroad. There is a resurge of the Coronavirus in Europe, and there is strong advice from their leadership to take precautions and stay home. The troubling list goes on.
And yes, it’s all WORLDWIDE.
Research for a vaccine is being pursued in multiple ways and in multiple countries without clear answers.

I pray that research would reveal a quick, simple cure for now and a preventative vaccine for the future.
So, for now, the REM song is applicable.
Is it the end of the world? It’s an age-old question. The Old Testament certainly has it’s fill of similar phases of disasters. Of course, their news took time to travel without the internet. Decades. Can you imagine a brother being sold and not reappearing for 40 years and no one knows about it or how it happened? Genesis 37. Our news quickly cycles through these type disasters each day. We are basically numb to them.
You may recall that the REM song ends with a repetitive verse — “it is the end of the world, but I feel fine”. To me, this has to be a refence to our being saved and secure in going to heaven.
Again, I believe God is trying to get our attention. He’s got mine.
The first blog I wrote last year urged us to be ready—to “Be in our seats” when Jesus returns. We are not to know when that will happen. But the current environment sure seems to apply.
Are you ready?
Turn to God. Trust Him. Accept His offer to be forgiven. Experience His comfort.
I can’t imagine not having His comfort in this.
Look to His new world and feel fine.
Godspeed

2 Peter 3:9-10

The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief.
