All of God’s creations are meant to be soothing.
Labor Day is here.
Many people go to the beach on Labor Day to mark the end of summer. Oh how we love the beach.
And by September, the temperatures have begun to drop. What do you love about the beach? What is the lure of the beach? It’s both exciting and comforting.
Many of us can sit and stare at the water, and the beach, and at the sand for hours, if not for all day.
I believe the chief attraction to the beach is, of course, that we can just sit there staring at its soothing beauty and listening to its sounds for hours. There are no demands. We can unwind. We can put all our cares and worries behind us. They are out of sight.
All we see is God’s creation ahead. All we hear are His gentle waves. Or even His rough seas. Both are soothing.
And we have no control over the surf. Normally we seek control in our lives, but at the beach we release our need for control, and we rely on God. That is a beautiful thing.
And did I mention sunsets? Oh and sunrises. Oh the beauty. Thanks be to God.
Godspeed
Psalm 43:3-4
The floods have risen up, O Lord.
The floods have roared like thunder; the floods have lifted their pounding waves.
But mightier than the violent raging of the seas,
Mightier than the breakers on the shore—the Lord above is mightier than these!
Matthew 8:25-27
They went to him and woke him up. “Lord!” they cried, “Save us! We’re going to die!” He asked them, “Why are you afraid, you who have little faith?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. The men were amazed. “What kind of man is this?” they asked. “Even the winds and the sea obey him!”
Psalm 146:5-6
Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever.
