There’s a moving scene in the Easter season miniseries The Bible by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey where Pilate is alone with Jesus. Jesus is quiet. Pilate is clearly frustrated. Pilate is in charge, or so he thinks. Jesus tells Pilate that he was born and came into the world to testify to the truth.Continue reading “What is Truth?”

Praying on the Way
Think on this. Try to grasp the beauty of this. Jesus is on his way to the cross. He has been flogged. Beaten. Stripped of his royal clothes. I can barely think about it. But we must. I am amazed at His strength, and I wonder what he is thinking on his way to the cross.Continue reading “Praying on the Way”
Earthly Dissatisfaction
I’m guilty. I look to others and to other things for happiness. I look for possessions to satisfy me. Furniture. Clothes. Shoes. Travel. Seeking, seeking, seeking. We all seek the things we think are important. Yet truly all I need is right in front of me. God knows my earthly focus. He is waiting for me toContinue reading “Earthly Dissatisfaction”
In Your Seat
Yesterday, 100,000 people were instructed to get to a BIG football game early. They were specifically instructed to be IN their seats an hour before someone important arrived. This was a casual, happy diverse crowd. Normally they set their own schedule. Sometimes they would be early. Sometimes they would be late. It really just depended on what THEY wanted to do. Continue reading “In Your Seat”
King David
David. Chosen from the field. What a story. We are told in 1 Samuel 13:14 and in Acts 13:22 that David is a man after God’s heart. David is profoundly loved by God. He is led by God.
Faith Spiral
Faith is never fully developed. It is never done. In the Valley of Vision book there is a prayer that ends with “Lord, increase my faith.” Our faith increases, but it is never done. Faith will grow as we grow closer to God. We have to let go of the shore and spiral into deeper faith.Continue reading “Faith Spiral”
Peter
Some people believe we need to get ourselves “cleaned up” before we knock on God’s door. This is clearly not the case according to the Bible. I recall the hymn “Just As I Am” that we frequently sang at my childhood church. But, we often feel inadequate to turn to God, and thus we stallContinue reading “Peter”
The Encounter
In the wonderful book The Shack the Holy Spirit is depicted as an Asian woman that’s somewhat foggy and hard to see but is lovely in her actions, and her spirit is critical in the role. I met the real Holy Spirit this summer. Deep in the night. Incredible encounters. Yes multiple encounters. So peaceful and comforting justContinue reading “The Encounter”
Flashlight
I am hesitant to acknowledge my sins. I am somewhat scared of them. Are you like that? To me, acknowledging my sins is like shining a flashlight into a dark corner of an unfinished basement. What will the flashlight reveal? Can we just keep the basement door closed? I am not comfortable acknowledging my sins. ButContinue reading “Flashlight”
Full Circle
I have always gone to church as far back as I can remember. The third child of a God loving mom, our mom somehow got us all dressed and in the car and at church most every Sunday. The continuing effects of this are immeasurable. We were members, like my maternal grandmother, of the Church of Christ,Continue reading “Full Circle”
